The frightening moment a nearly five-metre-long saltwater crocodile snapped up a large turtle has been captured on video.
The footage was taken from a mustering helicopter just south from the mouth of the Daintree River in far north Queensland.
The crocodile was seen swimming about half a kilometre from the shore when it was seen by Brian Bartlett.
Mr Bartlett captured the video and shared it to a community Facebook page where he warned locals about the sighting.
'Just trying to get message out large croc around 4.5m was swimming just South of Daintree mouth and half a kilometre out to sea roughly in line with Wonga Beach,' he wrote.
'Seen from a mustering helicopter, had a large turtle in its mouth.'
A picture was also uploaded which shows the true size of the crocodile and the turtle it has in its mouth.
Some of the locals took to the comments to marvel at the mammoth reptile.
'Wow that would have been awesome to see from the air!,' wrote one.
'Awesome pic!,' another commented.
This crocodile is the 12th reported sighting in the last 30 days across the Douglas Shire while three were seen around a similar area to this one, the Courier Mail reported.
