The Red Sea State ولاية البحر الأحمر (Wilayat Al Baḥr al Aḥmar) is one of the 18 states of Sudan. The original inhabitants of the state are Beja people, who constitute above 65% of the current population with lower wealth and power in the region. Geographically, in the east, bordering the state, is the Red Sea. Inland, mountains run from north to south, which are interrupted by arid plains. To the northwest is the Nubian Desert. The Siyal Islands are located in the disputed area between Egypt and Sudan in the northeast.

Sudan is truly a unique country, definitely off the beaten track, and not for your average traveler. Tourism in itself is in it's infant shoes, with a maximum of approximately 10,000 visitors a year. However for the hardened traveler, able to adapt to the rich multi-culture of Sudan, the rewards will be high. Sudan boasts different climatic regions, spanning from jungles, to desert and 750 Km of the most pristine, undeveloped shores of the Red Sea.

Port Sudan is a port city in eastern Sudan, and the capital of the state of Red Sea in the northeastern Sudan, located around 820 km northeast of the country’s capital, Khartoum. As of 2021, it has approximately 900,000 residents. Located on the Red Sea, it is the Republic of Sudan's main seaport. The population of Port Sudan comprises of people belonging to different communities, mainly indigenous eastern Sudanese tribes and also Arabs, Indians and Europeans.

To travel and discover new horizons off the beaten track and at a lower cost, a destination has begun to stand out from the others: Aswan, a city bordering the Nile, closely linked to the history of the Country of Nubia and the Empire of Egypt. To travel by road, from Port Sudan to Aswan and the rest of Egypt, without having your own vehicle, there are two possibilities.

Port Sudan is a great place to enjoy fresh seafood, hibiscus tea or other kinds and a stroll along the sunny promenade. Sudan runs on tea (shai) and coffee (jabana or kahwa). Take a walk on the Corniche, a street that runs along the shoreline in downtown Port Sudan with a great view of the harbor. Along the boardwalk area there are many cafés and local craftsmen selling jewelry made from seashells and also many trinkets.
