If dropping into the open ocean on snorkel isn’t your idea of fun, don’t read on. If the odd stray tooth putting a scratch on your dome port would upset you, perhaps just scroll down a bit. But if nailing an awesome shot of an awe-inspiring predator is what you live for, well, you’ll want to get your teeth stuck into this week’s techniques article, “Photographing Mako Sharks,” by the talented Mr Andy Murch.
Andy, who is the founder of Canada-based Big Fish Expeditions, knows a thing or two about sharks, having photographed pretty much every species you can think of, but reading his article and feasting your eyes on those images, you can’t help but think that makos must be among his favorites.
It probably doesn’t need to be said that shooting makos isn’t for the faint of heart, but there can be little doubt that a well-executed image of this formidable fish is one of the ultimate prizes for the intrepid big animal photographer. OK, you got this far—game to take the plunge?
