Fathom, the humpback whale documentary that is coming soon to Apple TV+, is heading to the Tribeca Film Festival before it premiere's on Apple's streaming service.

Yesterday, Tribeca announced its film lineup for the 2021 Tribeca Film Festival and revealed that Fathom will premiere at the event. Cara Cusumano, Festival Director and Vice President of Programming for the Tribeca Festival, announced that the event will be in person.

"After a year of closed cinemas, canceled gatherings, and virtual everything, it is with joy and hope that we finally invite New Yorkers out of their homes and back to the movies. Immersed in the city itself, Tribeca 2021 will bring once-in-a-lifetime big-screen experiences to filmmakers and audiences alike as we reconnect, re-imagine, and reopen through the shared experience of film."

After the film premieres at the Tribeca Film Festival, it will debut on Apple TV+ on June 25.

Tribeca Festival takes place June 9 to June 20 with a feature lineup that includes 66 films from filmmakers across the globe and 54 world premieres. We've curated a stunning features program from nearly 3,000 submissions. And more than 60% of this year's films are directed by women, BIPOC, and LGBTQ+ filmmakers. Fathom follows the story of two scientists who study the songs and social communication of humpback whales.

Directed and photographed by Drew Xanthopoulos ("The Sensitives"), "Fathom" follows Dr. Ellen Garland and Dr. Michelle Fournet, two scientists focused on the study of humpback whale songs and social communication. As they embark on parallel research journeys on opposite sides of the world, they seek to better understand whale culture and communication. The documentary film uniquely reveals a deep commitment and reverence to the scientific process and the universal human need to seek answers about the world around us. From hypothesis to groundbreaking experiences in the field, "Fathom" showcases the passion, curiosity, collaboration, perseverance and work it takes for leading scientists to make scientific discoveries.
