Mikey Wright Surfs Like a Man on Fire

Surfing has changed a lot over the years. What used to be seen as an activity for outcasts, something for the dregs of society to spend their time doing, is now a bonafide sport. It’s got a league with athletes who train to win. Podiums and Red Bull and trophies and all that. But there are a still a lot of surfers who don’t fit a particular mold, and one of them is Mikey Wright, recent hero of the North Shore.

Mikey’s interesting. While his brother Owen and sister Tyler are staples of the tour, Mikey’s hovering on the fringe — and, we’d suspect, that’s just the way he likes it. With that now-famous mullet and hard-charging mentality, Mikey’s surfing is a pleasure to watch, but not always conducive to winning heats. Mikey Wright just wants to send it, and in Quik’s latest 7-minute advertisement, he does just that. Mikey Wright surfs like a man on fire.
