Chuck Nicklin, a dive industry pioneer and member of the International Scuba Diving Hall of Fame, has passed away. He was 95.
Mr. Nicklin’s presence in the dive community spans decades and disciplines in the underwater field. In underwater cinematography, he is perhaps best known for contributing to various James Bond films, as well as The Abyss and The Deep. The California native also co-founded several iconic institutions, including the San Diego Underwater Photographic Society and the San Diego Undersea Film Exhibition.
Condolences and fond memories are pouring out from around the scuba diving community. We were fortunate to talk to Chuck several years ago about his storied career as documented in Camera Man: Stories of My Life and Adventures as an Underwater Filmmaker.
